Fay Ferris, RCC, CCC, CGT
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and Certified Gottman Couples Therapist (CGT) and I have practiced as a Counsellor for over 24 years. While my current focus is on Marriage Counselling, I continue to help Individuals with Depression, Anxiety, Eating Disorders and Trauma Symptoms. I am very dedicated to my profession.
As a child I was curious and interested in people’s psychology. As I became older I dreamed of helping people enhance their well-being, become happier, change their negative thinking and behavior, improve their relationships, and achieve their dreams.
As a young teen, I first encountered the thoughts of pioneering psychologists and decided that I wanted to have a career as a counsellor. In university, I obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Psychology. I also studied widely in areas such as the environment, philosophy, and religion. After marrying, having children, and learning from all the challenges of young parenthood, I decided to go back to school to obtain a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (UBC).
I’ve now been happily married for over 35 years, raised two children, and throughout my 24 years of counselling experience, I continue to love my work. I’m always learning about new research and clinical treatments. It is important for me that my practice offers the most current and effective therapy available.
I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy (see ‘Couples Counselling Approaches link for more information of the method) and I am eager to put into practice the method that teaches my clients how to save their relationships and be happy. I am a Certified Gottman Therapist (via The Gottman Institute) which is a major professional achievement. The Gottman Therapist Certification confirms that I have studied the research on what makes marriage work or fail, written exams, completed practicums and proven that I can apply the Gottman Institute’s Assessments and Interventions. My greatest reward is to hear that clients have made improvements in their lives, are happier, and have more stable and satisfying relationships.
I welcome people of any faith, culture, race, sexual orientation, age (over 12), and income. Diversity, inclusiveness, and sensitivity to world regions and religions is a central value in my life and couselling practice. Living in Richmond as part of a bi-racial family and learning about diversity of all types are great privileges in my life.
